A note from our President...
It looks like summer may have finally arrived (at least in the South East of England) and so there is a tendency for people to take their foot off the pedal and (justifiably) enjoy the sunshine. This should also make you feel better generally (evidence based) and increase your vitamin D levels (which may also be good for all sorts of reasons - evidence based), although of course one should be careful about UV exposure (more evidence based!).
The final webinar before the break, given by Koula Asimakopoulou, was very successful with lots of great questions and discussion. We have finalised the programme for the rest of 2019 and are now working on 2020. However, we are still of course open to further suggestions for topics – please contact the Society if you have any particular CPD needs or ideas for interesting topics – they don’t have to be periodontal, just useful and interesting for people delivering periodontal care.
The summer Council meeting was held in London at the beginning of July and we addressed a range of topics related to future events within the Society, the speciality and dentistry in general. Since this meeting, the document related to Commissioning Standards for Restorative Dentistry has been released. These relate not only to the specialty of Restorative Dentistry but to Monospecialties as well, and so are relevant to all members of the Society and beyond. Details are available on the news section of the BSP website - Please see the article below.
Although these may seem irrelevant to some of you, I would suggest that you do at least look through them, as they are likely to impact on many aspects of practice in the future. We will be looking into this carefully within Council and hope to be able to clarify and inform members if necessary. Again, please feel free to direct (polite) feedback, questions or concerns to the Society.
I hope that you all have, or have had, a fantastic summer, with or without a holiday, and we look forward to updating you soon.
