2021 FDS Research Fellowships and Grants - NOW OPEN

We are advised that this year, the Faculty of Dental Surgery has formed partnerships with the British Orthodontic Society (BOS), the British Association of Oral Surgeons (BAOS), the British and Irish Society of Oral Medicine (BISOM), the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry (BSPD) and the Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry (SAAD) and will be offering a number of fellowships and pump-priming grants:

  • Joint FDS RCSEng-BOS fellowship to support a clinical trainee in Orthodontics who wishes to further their academic and research training.
  • Joint FDS RCSEng-BAOS pump-priming grants for up to £10,000 and are intended to support research designed to benefit community or population oral health, and should be related to the field of Oral Surgery.
  • Joint FDS RCSEng-BISOM pump-priming grants for up to £10,000 and are intended to support research designed to benefit community or population oral health, and should be related to the field of Oral Medicine.
  • Joint FDS RCSEng-BSPD pump-priming grants for up to £10,000 and are intended to support research into the oral health of children in the broadest sense.
  • Joint FDS RCSEng-SAAD pump-priming grants for up to £10,000 and are intended to support research designed to benefit community or population oral health, and should be related to conscious sedation in dentistry.

In addition to this, the Faculty will continue to invite applications for the FDS Research Fellowships and the FDS Pump-Priming Grants:

  • Research fellowship to support clinical trainees to obtain research training. The proposed research should be of relevance to oral and dental research.
  • Up to five pump-priming research grants up to the value of £10,000. These grants are designed to meet research consumables costs for new or existing projects.
  • Up to three COVID-19 pump-priming grants up to the value of £10,000.  In view of the severe impacts of COVID-19 on oral health services, patients and providers, the Faculty wishes to support basic science or clinical research that seeks to address any aspect of the pandemic in relation to oral health.
