A note from our President…

As we approach the end of the year, I am sure like me, you are wondering where the time has gone. 2020 has certainly been a difficult and challenging year for all of us and one that we will not forget in a hurry!

I very much hope that you all get the opportunity to take a well-deserved break from work and caring for your patients, to enjoy spending some downtime with your family and friends over the holiday period.

Instead of winding down, the BSP team continues to be extremely busy, liaising with other stakeholders and working hard to achieve the aims of our strategic plan for the benefit of our members. We are currently working on several projects to further raise awareness of the importance of gum health to the public, patients, dental and medical professionals.

Thanks to the continuing hard work of Professor West and Professor Kebschull, we are planning to publish the BSP version of the EFP S3 Treatment Guidelines in the Journal of Dentistry in January 2021. This will be an important document, as the recommendations provide evidence-based support for specialists, dentists, dental hygienists and dental therapists. In addition, we will be publishing a lay version of the guidelines in the British Dental Journal.

The paper will be followed by a series of four educational webinars and the release of professional and patient resources to support our members and the wider dental profession in interpreting the guidelines. These valuable webinars will be added to our website Events page in the New Year.

I will send a final letter to the membership this week but, in the meantime, I wish to thank you for allowing me the honour of being your President this year. I wish you all a good break at the end of the month and send you my very best wishes for a healthy and happy 2021.
