Oral Health Statements to help you motivate your patient

We were delighted that many of our members and non-members registered to participate in April’s webinar, which centred around Periodontal disease management.

Presented by Professor Nicola West, the aim of the webinar was to discuss periodontal disease management and modifying, diagnostic and communication behaviour to achieve better oral health outcomes.

Professor West mentioned that she had a list of top 10 tips for how to motivate patients and we have subsequently received several enquiries about this.

Dr Jessica Naylor, a clinical research dentist, currently studying for a PhD with Professor West at Bristol University, is exploring how dentists deliver oral health information. They believe dental professionals need to be armed with the right tools to help their patients achieve their oral health goals and are looking into the most effective ways that information can be delivered to patients to bring about improved oral health.

Together they have developed a document with ten statements aimed to help encourage your patients to engage with you when delivering oral hygiene advice. In addition to being an excellent communication tool, the sheet can be used as a record of what you have discussed with the patient.
