Training Needs Assessment for Minimally Invasive Nonsurgical Therapy (MINST) among Dental Hygienists and Dental Therapists Practicing in the UK.

Gemma O’Callaghan, a Postgraduate student at the University of Greater Manchester, is completing an MSc Specialist Practice of Periodontal Therapy. As part of her research, she is exploring the training needs and experiences of UK dental hygienists and dental therapists in relation to Minimally Invasive Non-Surgical Therapy (MINST) for the management of infrabony defects.
The purpose of this research is to understand how dental hygienists and dental therapists perceive their training needs for MINST and what barriers they may face when trying to adopt advanced non-surgical periodontal techniques in general dental practice. The findings will inform recommendations for postgraduate education, CPD design and workforce development.
