To look at the factors that may be considered when trying to gauge periodontal prognosis in patients with significant disease. To then consider how these will effect the treatment planning process, both in ideal and in real-world situations. I will then try to tie this in with long term outcomes of periodontal treatment and how patients experiences and expectations may vary form the clinicians.
Outline the factors affecting periodontal prognosis at a whole mouth level
Consider periodontal prognosis at the tooth level
Discuss the factors involved in decisions of tooth retention as opposed to extraction in the worse affected teeth
Apply this to treatment planning decisions at the various stages of the periodontal care pathway
To compare how initial prognosis may correlate with long term outcomes
