Only the first 500 participants to log in on the evening will be able to participate in the live event.
However, booked participants will be able to view the webinar after the event on the BSP website. You will be notified when the recorded presentation is available for viewing.
1.5 hours CPD is offered to all delegates who have booked and viewed the webinar. Bookings must have been made through the BSP website. Non-members will need their booking reference number to obtain CPD. Evaluation form and CPD certificates will be available after the event on the website.
We shall provide an outline of the scientific evidence on the outcomes of orthodontic therapy in patients with stage IV periodontitis. We shall then describe the diagnostic pathway and the therapeutic phases, including the preferred timing for orthodontic treatment within the periodontal treatment plan. We shall also describe the possible influence of different orthodontic movements and the impact of anchorage and retention on long-term outcomes.
Explain the influence of periodontal health/stability on orthodontic tooth movement and vice versa
Recognise when orthodontic interventions can improve periodontal treatment outcomes
Plan integrated multidisciplinary care, taking into consideration the risk factors that could affect successful outcomes
Discuss the timing of orthodontic treatment, including start and monitoring in patients with periodontitis

Mariano Sanz, MD, DDS, DrMed, DrHC, MAE
I obtained my Medical Degree from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) in 1981. I later completed a Specialty in Stomatology in 1983 and a Doctorate in Medicine (PhD) at the same university in 1985. Afterwards, I moved to UCLA (USA) in 1988 to specialize in periodontology and returned to UCM in 1989 to become a Professor of Periodontology. Since then, I have served as Chairman of Periodontology, Director of the ETEP (Etiology and Therapy of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases) Research Group, and Chair of Postgraduate Periodontology (EFP-accredited Perio Specialty Program). I am also a Type II Professor at the University of Oslo. I am a member of the Academia Europeae, and I have received six honorary doctorate degrees from the University of Goteborg (Sweden), Coimbra (Portugal), San Sebastián (Santiago de Chile), the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina), the Medical University of Warsaw, and the University of Athens (Greece). I am the former Dean of UCM, past President of the Spanish Society of Periodontology, the European Federation of Periodontology, and the European Federation of the IADR. I have published over 500 scientific publications (ORCID # 0000-0002-6293-5755), (h-index 83), and I am an international lecturer on topics in Periodontology, Implant Dentistry, and Dental Education.
