Specialist Periodontist, Northampton, East Midlands

AK Dental Care is looking for a Specialist Periodontist to join our private referral practice in Northampton and help us develop the periodontal side of the practice.

We are not looking simply to fill a spare clinical day. We would like to find someone who wants to become part of the practice, build relationships with our referring dentists and help shape how the periodontal service develops over time.

The role would initially be around one to two days per month, with genuine scope to increase to four days per month as referrals grow. We can be flexible around the clinical day and are happy to work around existing commitments for the right person.

About the practice

AK Dental Care is a predominantly referral-based private practice with an established network of referring dentists. Our clinical team works across endodontics, restorative dentistry and implant dentistry, so there is a strong opportunity for genuine multidisciplinary treatment planning rather than working in isolation.

We have on-site CBCT, digital radiography, well-equipped surgeries and an experienced nursing and administrative team. Our hygienist has previous experience within the Periodontology Department at Birmingham Dental Hospital and we already have a structured hygiene service to support ongoing periodontal care.

We have installed a new surgery which gives us flexibility on the days you can work.

The practice is in Grange Park, Northampton, around three minutes from M1 Junction 15, with free parking directly outside. Several members of our clinical team travel to us from outside Northamptonfrom from London and Leicestershire.

The opportunity

We would like the successful clinician to develop a comprehensive periodontal referral service. Depending on your interests and scope of practice, this may include periodontal assessment and treatment planning, non-surgical periodontal care, periodontal surgery, regenerative procedures, mucogingival treatment, crown lengthening, peri-implant disease and multidisciplinary perio-restorative or perio-implant cases.

You would have the freedom to manage your patients in the way you feel is clinically appropriate, while having easy access to colleagues for case discussion where a combined approach is useful. We also have marketing and administrative support to help communicate the service to our existing and future referrers.

Education is important to us. We run study evenings for local dentists and would welcome someone who enjoys contributing to these from time to time. We see this as a good way of supporting our referral community as well as helping the periodontal service grow naturally.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone who is on the GDC Specialist List in Periodontics, or awaiting specialist registration. Clinical ability is important, but so is how you work with patients, colleagues and referring dentists.

You will suit the practice if you are approachable, communicate clearly, enjoy collaborative treatment planning and want to build long-term relationships with referrers. We are particularly interested in finding someone who would like to have a genuine input into the development of the service rather than simply attending to treat a list of patients.

Competitive private remuneration will be discussed according to experience and the structure of the role.
