Registering instructions will be sent out on Monday 18 May 2026, as you need to register with Zoom (a quick and simple process). After registering you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar on the evening.
Only the first 500 participants to log in on the evening will be able to participate in the live event.
However, booked participants will be able to view the webinar after the event on the BSP website. You will be notified when the recorded presentation is available for viewing.
1.5 hours CPD is offered to all delegates who have booked and viewed the webinar. Bookings must have been made through the BSP website. Non-members will need their booking reference number to obtain CPD. Evaluation form and CPD certificates will be available after the event on the website.

Explain the importance of early diagnosis of periodontal disease and its management
Describe the signs and symptoms of the different types of presentation of such diseases particularly Stage I
Discuss the relevance and limitation of the use of BPE score vs 6-point probing charts and their application
Interpret the BSP’s 2018 classification to diagnose Stage 1 disease and apply it in daily clinical practice.
Differentiate between irreversible and reversible attachment loss and explain its significant
Recognise and interpret the role of different risk factors
Develop evidence-based plans for managing early disease including the use of adjuncts

Paul is a registered Specialist in Periodontology who has worked in Primary care for over thirty years. He is a Consultant in Periodontology and Honorary Associate Professor at Birmingham Dental Hospital. Paul undertakes all aspects of periodontal treatment; his current clinical interests are the surgical management of recession defects.
Paul has previously been a practice owner and established the first NHS specialist periodontal referral service in primary care in England in 2005. He is actively involved in lecturing and training dentists and hygienists in all aspects of periodontal and implant dentistry both locally and nationally. He examines for the Overseas Registrant Exam and is an external examiner at University College London on their Master’s programs in Periodontology. He is currently the clinical lead in Periodontology at Birmingham Dental Hospital and sits on the Council of the British Society of Periodontology.
